SLEEP, DREAM AND PEACE MAGICK

After four consecutive nights of waking up in the middle of the night having nightmares, I decided to put this little piece out there.  I have included different spells to aid with sleep problems, bad dreams and restoring peace.  Of course, casting a peace spell for nightmares is kind of a long shot, I believe that it just might help.  I have also included a couple of articles (not written by me) that I feel might be helpful.  Use your heart and you will know which avenue that will be most helpful for your particular situation.

Spells to Help With Sleep, Dream and Peace Disturbances

Anti-Nightmare Chant

Say the following while you are falling asleep (only works in your bed):
‘Go away evil dreams
It’s not what it seems
Go away, go far away, leave my dream’s sight
Give me at least one good night.’

Sleep And Dream Chant

This can be used for any sort of sleep or dream magick. Chant the following:
‘Bring me quiet
Bring me peace
Ease my dreams
Nightmares cease.’

To Have Good Dreams

Place an owl feather over your bed (Cherokee tradition).

 For Sleep And Sweet Dreams

 Ingredients:
·         3 drops of lavender oil
·         2 small bunches of lavender
·         A small handful of poppy petals
·         1 piece of citrine
·         1 stick of passion flower incense
·         1 silver candle
·         Piece of blue silk
·         Length of blue silk thread
Cast your circle. Light the candle and incense. Lay the cloth between the two bunches of lavender and say these words:
‘By the power of the Goddess Moon
By candle wand and mystic rune
I ask the gift of sleep to fall
On those who chose this charm and call
In perfect love and perfect trust
A sleep as peaceful as the dove
By grace I ask and harm to none
So as I ask, so be it.’
As you say these words, place the petals on the cloth, add one drop of oil and the piece of citrine. Put one drop on each of the bunches of lavender and tie the cloth up with the blue thread. Keep repeating the words until you feel the spell has worked. Allow the candle and incense to burn out and place the cloth bundle under your pillow and tie a bunch of lavender to each side of the headboard.

Calming Chant

Chant this simple rhyme whenever you feel worried or scared:
‘I am peaceful, I am strong
Though dark may seem so long.
For day must follow every night,
Everything is alright.
I am always safe from harm,
The Goddess holds me in her arms.’

Calming Spell

Calming Technique
Sit comfortably and use your projective hand (usually right if you’re right handed or vice versa) to send out negative energies and your receptive hand to bring in positive energies, after a few minutes you will be much more relaxed and calm, and the good thing is you can do it any time.

Peace And Love Stone Spell

Love and peace are powers greater than we can know, but we can tap into the energies that surround these concepts and bring them into the new day by anointing a rose quartz with gardenia today. As you anoint the stone, whisper “peace” and “love” to yourself, magnifying the energy in the stone. Carry the stone with you today and any day you desire peace and love. A few times each day, take a moment to slow and deepen your breathing. Holding the stone in your hand, inhale and say the word “peace” to yourself. Feel a peaceful sensation fill your body. As you exhale, think of the word “love” and see a loving pink light flow through you into the world. Repeat two or three more times and any time you need to feel the spell.

Peaceful Home Spell Bag

Too much stress and discord around the house these days? A little magick charm bag will help bring peace and quiet back into your life. You might need to visit an herbal shop for some of these supplies:
·         Blue thread or fine string
·         A piece of angelica root
·         Chamomile oil
·         Balm of Gilead buds
·         Lavender blossoms
·         Small blue fabric bag
·         One hair from each member of your household
Twist and braid the hairs together with the blue thread, then tie them around the piece of angelica root. Rub a small drop of chamomile oil over the bundle. Put the tied root along with the Balm of Gilead, chamomile and lavender into the bag and tie it (or sew it) closed. Place it in a central spot in the house, like the kitchen or living room. It will help diffuse any tensions and negative energy flowing into the house.

A General Charge For Spell Work

The following chant is a good all-purpose chant that can be used for just about any spell.
‘Witches power burning bright,
Tarot, rune and blade,
Charge the spell, enfilled with might,
Here and now the magick’s made.
Wave and tree, hedge and flame,
Strength of the elements, gather here,
To bless this work and charge it well,
To complete the spell now far or near.
Mystic Moon and Brilliant Sun,
Send your power here this way,
Gracious Lady, Mighty Lord,
Bless this charge that I lay.
Powers that are, powers that be,
Gather round this spell I cast,
Empower my working three times three,
Send it forth to see it last!
So shall it be!’

Articles to Help With Dream Problems

Dream Problem Solving

Your dreams are "written" in your own private vocabulary; that's why their meaning is often unclear (and why dream books you buy at the corner newsstand won't explain your own visions). Moreover, the language of dreams is sensory and visual, whereas the language of daily life is verbal. You need to translate a dream much as you would a foreign language.
Unfortunately, the same forces that make us disguise problems in our dreams are likely to hinder our recognizing them when we're awake. Even Freud had trouble with self-analysis. So an impartial listener - attained therapist - can help. "It's a collaborative process," says New York psychoanalyst Walter Bonime, author of the classic text, THE CLINICAL USE OF DREAMS (Da Capo Press, $29.50)
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't explore your dreams alone or with a partner. People who keep dream journals say that over time, patterns often emerge. To put your dreams to work solving problems, try this routine:
·         Program yourself to wake up after every REM period. I did it while writing this article simply by telling myself I wanted to at bedtime. But don't make it a regular habit. "The ability to maintain consciousness during sleep can backfire," says Dr. Neil Kavey, director of the Columbia-Presbyterian sleep lab. "If you can't shut it off, you may have trouble remaining asleep, or you may sleep so poorly that you feel you didn't sleep at all."
·         Put a notebook and pen or tape recorder at your bedside.
·         At bedtime, select a problem and sum it up with a question, such as "Should I take this new job?" Write it down and list possible solutions.
·         Turn off the lights and reflect on these solutions. Stick with it until you drift off to sleep.
·         When you wake up - during the night or in the morning - lie still. To jog your memory, pretend you're a detective interviewing an eyewitness. What's the last thing you remember? Before that? Going backward can help you more easily reconstruct a dream.
·         Write down or tape record all that you remember. Do it before you shower and have breakfast.
·         If you have trouble catching dreams, try sleeping late on weekends The longest dreams occur in the last part of sleep and many of us cut sleep short on week nights.
Once you've recorded your dream, how do you decode it? Tell it to yourself in the third person, suggest psychologist Lillie Weiss in DREAM ANALYSIS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY (Pergamon Press, $11.95). This may give you some distance from the dream and help you see the actions more clearly. Then look at the part of the dream that is the most mysterious. "Frequently the most incongruous part provides the dream message," Weiss says.
In her dream-therapy study, Cartwright asks participants to examine and try to change repetitive, troublesome dreams along seven dimensions:
·         Time orientation. Do all your dreams take place in the past? Try positioning them in the present or future.
·         Competence to affect the outcome. Try finding a positive way to resolve a dream.
·         Self-blame. In your dreams, do you hold yourself responsible when things go wrong? Must you?
·         Relation to former role: If your divorced, do you still dream of yourself as married? If you have lost your job, do you still see yourself at work? Consider alternatives.
·         Motivation. Do you dream of being nurtured? Can you think of a way to take care of yourself?
·         Mood. What would make a dream more pleasant?
·         Dream roles: Do you like the part you play in your dreams? What role would you prefer?

 Lucid Dreaming

By: Stephen LaBerge and Jayne Gackenbach

POWER TRIPS: CONTROLLING YOUR DREAMS
A number of techniques facilitate lucid dreaming. One of the simplest is asking yourself many times during the day whether you are dreaming. Each time you ask the question, you should look for evidence proving you are not dreaming. The most reliable test: Read something, look away for a moment, and then read it again. If it reads the same way twice, it is unlikely that you are dreaming. After you have proved to yourself that you are not presently dreaming, visualize yourself doing what it is you'd like. Also, tell yourself that you want to recognize a nighttime dream the next time it occurs. The mechanism at work here is simple; it's much the same as picking up milk at the grocery store after reminding yourself to do so an hour before.
At night people usually realize they are dreaming when they experience unusual or bizarre occurrences. For instance, if you find yourself flying without visible means of support, you should realize that this happens only in dreams and that you must therefore be dreaming.      If you awaken from a dream in the middle of the night, it is very helpful to return to the dream immediately, in your imagination. Now envision yourself recognizing the dream as such. Tell yourself, "The next time I am dreaming, I want to remember to recognize that I am dreaming." If your intention is strong and clear enough, you may find yourself in a lucid dream when you return to sleep.
Even if you're a frequent lucid dreamer, you may not be able to stop yourself from waking up in mid-dream. And even if your dreams do reach a satisfying end, you may not be able to focus them exactly as you please.
During our years of research, however, we have found that spinning your dream body can sustain the period of sleep and give you greater dream control. In fact, many subjects at Stanford University have used the spinning technique as an effective means of staying in a lucid dream. The task outlined below will help you use spinning as a means of staying asleep and, more exciting, as a means of traveling to whatever dream world you desire.
Before retiring, decide on a person, time, and place you would like to visit in your lucid dream. The target person and place can be either real or imaginary, past, present, or future. Write down and memorize your target person and place, then visualize yourself visiting your target and firmly resolve to do so in a dream that night.
To gain lucidity, repeat the phrase describing your target in your dream, and spin your whole dream body in a standing position with your arms outstretched. You can pirouette or spin like a top, as long as you vividly feel your body in motion.
The same spinning technique will help when, in the middle of a lucid dream, you feel the dream imagery beginning to fade. To avoid waking up, spin as you repeat your target phrase again and again. With practice, you'll return to your target person, time, and place. When spinning, try to notice whether you're moving in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.

Blessed Be!
